"Why do I have to wait so long?"

About: East Surrey Hospital / Trauma and orthopaedics

(as the patient),

I had an operation for a prolapsed disc in late 2008. It went very well and I went back to work. Unfortunately, I sneezed in January and my back went again.

I have waited 12 weeks to see the consultant again. He thinks that the disc has either prolapsed again or part of it may have broken off. An MRI scan is needed to confirm this. I am told that this will take 4 to 6 weeks before I can have the scan.

There will then be a follow up consultation with the consultant by which time the 18 week period will have elapsed and I will not have been treated. Why is it taking so long? What happened to the 18 week time limit? If anyone can throw any light on this I would appreciate it.
