"Camden Crisis Team wont come out"

About: Camden and Islington NHS Foundation Trust / Crisis resolution

(as a carer),

The crisis team refused to come out to our mum. She used to get services but wont go near them now. She gets very psychotic. The police have had to break in lots of times as she is a a danger to herself. We were told the GP rang the crisis team and they said they knew our mum but because she wont work with MH services then they refused to go out. The GP was told to call the police for a welfare check instead.

I read what the other person here said and it feels the same. The crisis team tell people who ring for help that they wont/dont see them if they are seen as difficult patients or have complained. The GP confirms this is what was said. I know another carer from carers group who was told the same thing as her brother wont work with mh teams then crisis teams wont go out. I think it is a Trust management decision.

This is the same team that was in the press recently.

I think the people who respond here from the Trust either dont know or are more interested in looking like saying the right thing.

Dear Young BME Carer

Thank you for alerting us to what has happened to your mum. While I don't work in the crisis team I have forwarded this email to the relevant people as a priority alert.

You write that your mother doesn't want to work with our services, which obviously makes it harder for us to engage but I will ensure we get to the bottom of this for you.

To do this however we will need your cooperation. Can you please get in touch with our feedback team on feedback@candi.nhs.uk or via telephone on 0203 317 3117. This will be treated in strictest confidence. If you don't get in touch it will be hard for us to follow up the issue related to your mum as we won't be able to identify her.

If you don't get in touch then I will ensure a more generic response is made about these sorts of issues. However, I think it is important that we try to help your mother so if you could get in contact that would be very helpful.

Regarding your point about the people who respond to these posts looking like they are only interested in "saying the right thing", that is categorically untrue. I am extremely keen that any issues raised here and by others are answered as fully and as accurately as possible. It certainly isn't a facade for us, and certainly on my watch this won't be the case. Regards Karl

Dear Young BME Carer

We are sorry that you feel let down by your experience of working with the crisis teams in Camden. As a carer you must experience a great deal of pressure and upset and it is very disheartening to hear that you have felt unsupported by our service.

Our crisis teams endeavour to support service users and their families during very difficult times and I would encourage you to contact us directly about your specific experience so we can give you more appropriate and specific advice.

Our main aims as part of Camden and Islington NHS Foundation Trust are that people feel cared for and listened to by our staff members. The role of our team within the trust is to ensure that people in acute phases of their illness are offered fast, appropriate, effective and sensitive treatment in order to support them with recovery.

Your comments could really help us to reflect on how we might improve the care and treatment of all of our patients and carers but we do encourage you to contact us with more specific details.

We always welcome comments from service users and families to help us to improve our approaches to care.

If you wish to deal with this issue directly with the relevant team manager, please contact either myself (Anoushka Khorramian – Clinical Team Manager for North Camden CRT) or Hayner Harries (Clinical Team Manager for South Camden). Our respective emails are below.

Anoushka.khorramian@candi.nhs.uk

Hayner.Harries@candi.nhs.uk

You can also contact our feedback team on 020 3317 3117 or feedback@candi.nhs.uk if you feel more comfortable getting in touch with them.

Yours sincerely,

Anoushka Khorramian
