The district nurse called to see my wife and, after trying to cure the small ulcers, made an appointment at the local hospital podiatry clinic. They took her in straight away for debridement and after 2 attempts decided that an above the knee amputation was necessary. She was very brave but died of a heart condition 6 weeks after admission. I feel the details of the prognosis could be improved.
I suggest that anyone facing possible surgery for diabetes should do their utmost to get first class treatment.
