"Waiting to be seen for my epilepsy"

About: Guy's Hospital / Neurology University Hospital Lewisham / Neurology

(as the patient),

I was in an accident 2 years ago and went to neuro at St Thomas - purportedly one of the best in London. They haven't sent me to an epilepsy specialist yet.

Lewisham has a really bad rep in the community, so I'd never gone. My GP said the neuro consultant was great, as he knew him personally. He referred me to Lewisham. He faxed it over and put URGENT a few times. Weeks went by and no letter. I called the department and the secretary was very rude and said to call back in 3 weeks. According to the NICE guidelines, epilepsy is suspected, the situation is to be rushed anyway.

The consultant at Lewisham cancelled the appointment. I have been trying to be seen by an Epilepsy Specialist for the last 9 months.

With Eplilepsy, there is a 'sudden death syndrom', hence the rush that the NHS is supposed to follow.

I just went to the appointment yesterday and ended up with the consultant's student. I should not have been suprised to find that I knew more about the various types of seizure than she did.

I will never go to this hospital again.
