(as the patient),

I attended a clinic at Monklands hospital and had to have blood taken recently. The phlebotomist never washed their hands or changed their apron from the previous patient but only changed their gloves. I had noticed this last year too when my sister had blood taken with a highly infectious blood disorder. It seems to me that there is a lack of understanding by the individual as to infection prevention and protection of both themselves and their patients.

Dear Labradog

Thank you for taking the time to post your experience and observations of your treatment within Monklands Hospital. I am very disappointed to learn of your treatment and would like to assure you we take Infection Control Standards very seriously within the Hospital. It is NHS Lanarkshire's expectation that all staff comply with Standard Infection Control Precautions for every episode of patient care.

I have raised your concerns with the Phlebotomy Service Manager.

However, in order for me to address these issues with the appropriate staff member, it would be helpful to know when you attended the hospital. I would be very grateful if you could contact Melanie MacLean on extension 3065.
