About: Princess Royal University Hospital / General medicine

(as a carer),

I was referred for IV antibiotics from the Princess Royal and told to go daily to the Beacon UCC in Beckenham. Given completely false information by A&E who told us we could book in advance for an appointment.

On arrival told to wait and appointment made was meaningless. Told on first day that they'd make sure we had appointment following day but when called the next day they didn't have a clue and just said 'come between 10 and 12'. Also told service changing to a different provider on Thursday so not sure if service could be offered.

Trust me, I'd never choose this place to go for treatment but I had no choice as apparently this is where PRUH have their contract - so much for patient choice. Some staff pleasant but others seemed to think that asking for a time was like asking them to clean my shoes - when that was the information we'd been given from the hospital.

Going and waiting for three consecutive days for between 1 and 6 hours when you are told there's an appointment system seems rubbish patient care. We weren't 'walk in' - this was a specific procedure that could not be delivered in any other setting so 'no appointment' for IV antibiotics (which is saving an inpatient bed) seems unhelpful.
