Firstly, every visit I have had, the staff have been exemplary. A true credit to their profession, especially the sisters & nurses on the wards. I have to offer my gratitude to the skills& knowledge of the surgeons / consultants who conducted my operation - which is proving to be a success, some 6 weeks post op. Thank You !! I had quite a large abdominal operation that meant I had to stay in for 8 nights before I was allowed home. And I have to say, 7 of those 8 nights were some of the worst nights I have ever experienced. I was situated in an "open ward" with up to 15 other people, most of which were elderly, who suffered with a variety of ailments. Being a light sleeper and with some of these older gentlemen talking, shouting or screaming in the night, and coupled with movement of people on and off the ward at all hours, meant I got little or no rest. Which I'm sure didn't assist my recuperation. I understand that the ward I was on was a temporary measure whilst building work was going on elsewhere, and that it is a 24/7 surgical ward with constant people movement, but a place of rest - not a chance. I was thankful to my partner for taking me out of the facility daily so I could get some fresh air and have a decent couple of hours snoozing in our car. To add to the boredom, there was no telly or radio to help pass the time of day. Thank goodness for a decent 3G signal !! The facility was cleaned daily, staff were fantastic, the food (when I could) was of good quality. The place does look tired and looks its age in many places and could do with some money spent on some building improvements.
