"This hospital saves my baby's life!"

About: Glenfield Hospital

My daughter was born with a severe congenital heart defect (half a heart, HLHS) and we would of lost her if it wasn't for the fantastic surgeons and aftercare we received. She has had two open heart surgery's which carried a high mortality rate (due to its complicated nature) and both times my little girl was saved. I can not fault the professionalism and care we received from the team apart from one surgeon who's bedside manner was somewhat missing!! The only other issue I had was a lack of pain relief for my then, 4 week old daughter as she had a procedure which involved scraping a scalpel around an open wound in her chest to make it bleed (this would help with the healing process) but she wasn't given any pain relief apart from glucose (which makes them a bit high!). My little girl was screaming in agony during the procedure so afterwards I made sure it would never happen again, it didn't!! Otherwise, I am very happy with the care my daughter received and I would be very upset if the heart unit was shut down due to the children's heart surgery review.

Dear reviewer, Thank you for taking the time to post your comment. We are really pleased to hear how well your daughter was cared for by the Children’s Hearts team at Glenfield, but would like to address the concerns you have raised regarding the surgeon’s bedside manner and pain relief. To enable us to do so, please could you email your daughter’s details (name, address, date of birth and hospital number) to me, Carmel.Hunt@uhl-tr.nhs.uk Kind regards, Carmel Hunt Matron for East Midlands Congenital Heart Centre Leicester’s Hospitals
