I have had crohns disease for over 15 years - for two weeks I suffered constipation (which I had never had before) finally in agony my 14 year old son rang the doctors surgery only to be referred to the out of hours surgery service - who on hearing my symptoms just said to eat more fruit and veg! That night, I was rushed to St Thomas A and E, diagnosed with a bowel obstruction. My bowel then ruptured and I now have a permanent stoma - my advice is, if you have a serious condition like mine, never ring an out of hours GP service, go straight to hospital!
