"My time on Weaver ward"

About: Halton General Hospital / Weaver Ward

(as the patient),

I was admitted to Weaver Ward in February '09 with a very bad bout of depression. I was there for a total of 8 weeks.

Most of the staff were very understanding and would always listen to me, although one or two didn't seem to bothered, but you soon get to know who you are comfortable or not with.

The food is ok, but when you are there for a number of weeks it gets rather boring, but it is eatable.

The main Doctors are very good and treated me with respect and understood I was ill.

Towards the end of my time after 5 weeks of being there, I had a course of ECT treatment, I started to pick up after the first few and by the last one I felt my normal self again.

I made quite a few friends during my time and have been keeping in touch.

I am now fully recovered, I never thought I would be well again but with thanks to the care and treatment I got on the Weaver Ward I am truly grateful.

Dear Alma

Thank you for your comments, it’s very important for us to receive feedback in this way, so we can learn from your comments and improve our services.

Firstly can I say that I took your comments down to all of the staff on Weaver ward including the medical staff, and they where delighted to here that you are doing well and that you found your time on Weaver Ward positive, most importantly that the care and treatment you received enabled you to recover and get back to normal.

I was very pleased that you found staff where approachable and understanding of your problems. I am sorry that you felt on occasion that a staff member was not as understanding as you would wish and I do apologise for this. I have discussed this with the Acting Ward Manager and she is ensuring that staff attitude is part of the individual staff’s supervision process where attention to this can be kept a priority.

In terms of the food Alma, I do appreciate that after several weeks the choice can be a little limited. We do strive to provide as much choice as possible, via the following:

• A daily menu choice

• Healthy eating options such as salad and fruit that is always available on a daily basis

• Special dietary requirements are fully provided for

Following up on your comments, standards and quality of food is a standard agenda item within the Weaver Wards community meetings. Any suggestions for improvements are flagged up here and taken to the catering services, to see if they can be implemented. Any suggestions you may have Alma would be welcomed.

Both I and all the staff on Weaver Ward are happy to hear that during your time spent with us you where able to make friends that you have kept in touch with. This must be such a great support for you. Once again Alma, many thanks for your feedback. We wish you all the very best
