"Mismanagement of my admission to PRI"

About: Perth Royal Infirmary / General Surgery

(as a parent/guardian),

This story is about several weeks of mismanagement of my admission to Perth Royal Infirmary.

I was admitted for an operation which was cancelled due to an emergency.

At a later date I was telephoned by ward and told that a bed was available for an evening and I was advised that it would be.

Next day I prepared for surgery am, advised to be approx 11 am.

Mid day I was told it was cancelled as bed shortage and no alternative offered.

How is it possible to cancel theatre list midway? Whoever has powers to do this

is very irresponsible, do they appreciate the mental and physical repercussions

of such actions?

Nursing staff were most sympathetic and kind to me.

Thank you for taking time to share your feedback and I would like to personally apologise that your operation was cancelled on 2 separate occasions. I know this would have been extremely upsetting and frustrating for you.

On occasion, there can be an unusually high number of patients admitted as an emergency that need to have treatment and operations urgently that day. When this does happen it is regrettable and unavoidable that some patients need to have their operation cancelled. I am sorry that your experience of NHS Tayside has been negative. I would also like to thank you for your positive comments about how the nursing staff communicated with you and I will share your feedback them.
