"Frightening"

About: North Tyneside General Hospital

I got taken to A&E by ambulance. The Doctor Who attended to me was absolutely disinterested in listening to me. I was left behind a curtain with oxygen and a drip feeling like I was passing out whilst the staff were gathered around discussing one of their recent house moves. Eventually the doctor came back to me I told her I was going to pass out and was desperate for the tiolet. She unhooked the bag from the drip and gave me to hold, then sent me walking unaided to the toilet in the waiting area. The discomfort I was in at this time was unbearable, again I told her I was so lightheaded I felt like passing out, but no she srnt me on my way. The weight of the bag was pulling the needle out of my hand and the blood was running up the tube. It was a matter of either me struggling to walk or basically urinating on the floor. I then obviously had to struggle my toilet needs on my own with this bag feeling faint and blood coming out of my hand. When I returned to the cubicle a nurse was there and shouted to the doctor that the wet pool on tge floor was actually due to a puncture in the bag, the doctor then told me they thought I had spilt a glass of water which I hadnt even been offered. So the fluid actually wasn't going into me. There were old plastic tubes on the floor and used cups around the sink. Even though I felt absolutely terrible and so lightheaded I was sent home and told not an a n e matter. What on earth has this NHS come too? You call for a Doctor but going off your symtoms they send an ambulance then when you get to hospital they say not there call? I honestly feel so let down by the system it frightens me that your health is put in their hands.

Dear Sir / Madam, Many thanks for your review - I have to be honest and admit that I found it quite shocking to read. You will understand why both the details of the care and the cold response from our staff are of great concern to us. It bears no resemblance to the service we would expect our staff to provide. Your post is anonymous and as such it is impossible for me to understand anything more about what happened other than the details you provide here. Can I ask you to please get in contact with me urgently - my email address is annie.laverty@nhct.nhs.uk many thanks again for sharing your story and for working with us so that we can understand more and act to continually improve the care we provide. Annie
