"Urology lack of care"

About: Worthing Hospital

after a range of tests my mother was seen by a Consultant on 4th July 2014 at this visit she was told bluntly that she probably had a tumour on her right kidney but given her age did she want to act on this information. She requested further investigation. After a long period of waiting she was given an appointment for February 2015. I phoned to complain. We were then told she would have to have a repeat scan as the previous one was so long ago. She had this on 3rd October 2014. As we have yet to hear from the hospital I phoned the Consultant's secretary this morning only to find he has yet to see the scans and they are short staffed. Is it fair to tell a woman of 90 she has probably got cancer and then leave her hanging for four months without even a word. She and her family are in a constant state of anxiety as to whether the diagnosis is correct and she is unable to make a decision as to how to proceed.

We are very concerned to read this feedback about your experience with your mother of our urology service. We agree that to be given such news and then left with no further communication is not acceptable and we are very sorry for this. We have forwarded this feedback to the manager for this service who would like to investigate in full and also to ensure that your mother’s care progresses appropriately. As the NHS Choices website is a confidential site we do not have your contact details. We would therefore be grateful if you would contact our PALS service on 01903 285032(office hours) or by emailing us at PALSWorthing@wsht.nhs.uk We hope to hear from you soon so that we can support you with your concern. Once again please accept our sincere apologies
