after a range of tests my mother was seen by a Consultant on 4th July 2014 at this visit she was told bluntly that she probably had a tumour on her right kidney but given her age did she want to act on this information. She requested further investigation. After a long period of waiting she was given an appointment for February 2015. I phoned to complain. We were then told she would have to have a repeat scan as the previous one was so long ago. She had this on 3rd October 2014. As we have yet to hear from the hospital I phoned the Consultant's secretary this morning only to find he has yet to see the scans and they are short staffed. Is it fair to tell a woman of 90 she has probably got cancer and then leave her hanging for four months without even a word. She and her family are in a constant state of anxiety as to whether the diagnosis is correct and she is unable to make a decision as to how to proceed.
