I am waiting for the test results from a barium enema I had in September. It took 3 weeks for the results to be sent to my GP. But then the results weren't clear, and it wasn’t clear to my GP what to do next. So, in early Oct my GP wrote a letter to my consultant, asking for more information.
However, my consultant was on leave, so they needed to find a new consultant to look at the results, which meant I had to wait even longer for this to be sorted.
I’ve been waiting 7 weeks for these results, and now I have to go back again, but I still don’t know when. I was asked to go in asap, but trying to book an appointment, the secretary tells me that they are short staffed, so I will have to wait for an appointment.
Clearly there was a problem with communication between the consultant and my GP – if this had been clear to start with, we wouldn’t be in this problem now!
All this waiting for news is very stressful. I have a family history, and am concerned about bowel cancer. I hope that I don’t have to wait much longer. I think it is shocking to have to wait for so long for results, when there could be something seriously wrong.
