"Problems with prescriptions"

About: Kidderminster Treatment Centre - Acute Trust / General surgery

(as the patient),

Twice this year I have attended a clinic appointment which resulted in a medical prescription. On the first occasion I was advised to see my doctor to get the prescription so made an appointment for a fortnight later. The letter had still not arrived from the consultant so a prescription could not be issued. This wasted an hour of my day, my money to park and a G. P. appointment someone else could have used.

On the second occasion I was told I needed medication immediately and sent down to the G. P. s. to sit there for 45 minutes whilst a prescription was produced. Having already spent 2 hours at the hospital due to a late running clinic which I paid £3 for the delight of parking for, I was not best pleased to again have to go and pay a further parking charge in town and waste over an hour extra in time just for a prescription which the consultant could have produced there and then.

The whole system of not having prescriptions issued by the doctor in clinic (one minute to write maximum) ends up costing patients more time, money and inconvenience and delays treatment when letters to G. P. 's are delayed.
