"bowel problems: what can I do?"

About: Royal Bournemouth General Hospital

(as the patient),

I have had bleeding, diarrhoea, urgency and cramping for 7 weeks and am completely housebound. I saw my GP after 1 week of symptoms and was told I'd need to wait 1 month for referral. I had to wait a further 2 weeks to see a hospital doctor at Bournemouth. Now I'm waiting for a colonoscopy appointment and it has been another week. I am in despair-what can I do?

Dear ‘Grace81’

I am sorry to hear that you are having such a long wait to investigate your bowel problems.

It is always very difficult to comment on an individual case without more details of your history but as this is an on-going investigation I would strongly recommend that you refer back to your GP with your concerns and see if they can expedite your colonoscopy.

Alternatively you could contact our Endoscopy department directly on 01202 704906 to see if your details are in the system and how long before you receive an appointment date.

You could also contact our Patient Advice and Liaison Service (PALs) on 01202 704886 who could take your details and look into this on your behalf.

I hope this advice is helpful to you and that you are seen quickly by our Endoscopy team and your symptoms can be resolved promptly.

Kind regards

Sue Mellor
