"Total Hip Replacement October 10th 2014"

I was scheduled for the operation on a Friday and went down at 3.30pm after a friendly greeting from the consultant and the anaesthetist . I awoke in recovery at 5.30pm and was transferred to Ward 14 after that. I can honestly say I have never had such excellent care from staff during the pre-op and post op stage. I woke up that first night at about 3am and the HCA on duty made me tea and toast - you cannot imagine how much better I felt after that! I was helped out of bed the following day and used the walking frame to go to the bathroom. I was helped by the very friendly staff on the ward and nothing was too much trouble for them. I saw the physiotherapists every day and was discharged on the Tuesday. My would had a lot of leaking and I had the wonderful district nurses from South Warwickshire visit regularly to change my dressings. After two particularly bad bouts of drainage from the wound the consultant kindly saw me in clinic this week at 3.5 weeks post-op. I have had a blood test and will see him again next week to see if there is any underlying infection although he does not think so as the wound has now closed. I would like to praise Solihull Hospital for all of the care they provided before, during and after my recent hip operation. You have all been wonderful and I really cannot wait to get my other hip scheduled for surgery under the same team. Five stars is not enough!!
