"A & E Visit 25th Oct 2014 10.30am-12.30pm mixed..."

About: Calderdale Royal Hospital

The purpose of this review is to inform whoever it may concern about the mixed experience I received as a A & E Patient I had an accident training my horse the evening before and was in severe pain, could not walk, was in wheelchair - this was how I was processed: Upon arrival the lady behind the reception - was fabulous - I was emotional (trauma) and she was very understanding The Triage Nurse who collated details - was again really lovely, giving me painkillers, again very understanding The Doctor appeared cavalier in his approach, took the details and said he would not examine me until I had had an x-ray - we thought this was sensible. After producing the x-ray note for the radiographer, he said that the radiographer may balk at the request - we were puzzled (internal politics) The radiographer queried the note from the doctor and said it was too much, left me to discuss with doctor-upon her return she escorted me into the x-ray Room I was in severe pain - and was unable to put my body into the 'best' positions for some of the x-rays - at this the radiographer became frustrated saying that she had important patients to deal with, and needed to hurry up. I was made to feel less important, a nuisance- at this stage, and became upset. x-rays were completed and I returned to the doctor - who quickly looked at the x-rays and concluded 'nothing broken' told me to go home with painkillers and anti-inflammatories and to go to my GP if things got worse. The doctor did not examine me at all - we were puzzled - but left the hospital. On my way out I put the red disc into I would recommend this hospital to family and friends - and thought that actually this is giving the wrong information. Based upon my experience - where the doctor did not examine me, nor appeared to care or show interest, where the radiographer showed an apparent lack of patient care - I would not recommend your hospital. I did return to my GP (two visits) - who did examine me and confirmed severe torn hamstring - I am now being referred to a specialist tomorrow. So disappointed, that some of your staff are so lacking in patient interest and care .. I am a regular user of your hospital with my elderly mother … and our confidence is now quite shaken.
