"A+E visit"

About: Royal Hampshire County Hospital

My father has dementia and was taken from his care home to A+E last week after a fall. All he could tell us was his head hurt. Through careful questioning and various scans, x rays and other procedures it was found that he had a cracked pubis. I take my hat off to the care and compassion shown by the ambulance men while dealing with a confused and agitated old man. The doctor, nurses and care staff were exemplary in their handling of my father. Everything my father needed was provided, pads, wet wipes etc. He was given good pain relief and returned to his home by caring staff. Thank you so much. All this was done on a very busy night when the department was stretched to bursting point but at no point were we made to feel like just another number. Thank you for your compassion and accurate diagnosis. He is making good progress already.

Thank you for taking the time to leave a comment on NHS Choices. It is always lovely to hear encouraging feedback from patients on the quality of care and treatment they have received. I will ensure that your kind words are received by the Emergency Department team, who I’m sure, will greatly appreciate them. Mary Edwards, Chief Executive Email: mary.edwards@hhft.nhs.uk
