"Poor access to services for people who work for a living "

About: Doncaster Royal Infirmary

(as the patient),

I recently went to the doctors about a non life threatening thing which required bloods to be done on a certain date. As a working person it was not possible to reschedule my commitments. I was told that I had to be there before 3pm otherwise there was nothing they could do. I asked if I could nip into one of the sheffield hospitals as I work in Sheffield but "oh no, it has to be doncaster". I replied that I couldn't be in doncaster at the times stated and was told "Well what can we do, if you want it done thats the options". How is it fair that anyone who does not have to be at work during business hours can have access to anything they want yet those of us that are funding the establishment by working struggle to get seen in the first place, struggle to get the investigations and struggle to get further appointments. How can an organisation like this be so inflexible. It beggars belief.

Thank you for getting in touch.

I am not sure from your comment if you are referring to the opening hours at your GP surgery for your bloods to be taken. If your bloods are to be taken at Doncaster Royal Infirmary, the service is open Monday to Friday from 8.00am - 5.00pm, and not 3.00pm as stated. I hope this answers your query.

Update posted by CHR (the patient)

8 am - 5 pm times at DRI are irrelevant to those of us who work office hours. Especially those who work out of town. However I wasn't referring to DRI I was referring to my GP. Nevertheless I would like to know how you think having to travel further to access services when working in Sheffield is of any help to me. As I said it's too inflexible and there was no reason why I could not have had bloods taken at a different trust. It was purely the admin staff's lack of willingness to pick up a phone to chase results.
