"No Duty of Care"

About: Homerton University Hospital

My husband recently went to the A&E with a shoulder injury He is a man of 70 years old, and he was discharged home with no discharge letter or follow up appointment. He was told by the hospital they will call him, but they did not know when? He was sent home alone, after informing staff there was no one at home, he was unable to use the right side of his body due to the injury, and had a weakness on the left side. So he spent 48 hours with not hot food or hot drinks, unable to lay down or get up out of the armchair. On complaining to the A&E department 48 hours later I was asked to bring him back and was told, they would put all of the above right. He was kept in overnight and was told his care would be put right the following morning. Today he has been told to go home again, and he is to be seen in the shoulder clinic as an out patient. he has bee placed in a discharge room even though his care is not complete. He has not yet seen a physio and is still waiting after 5 hours for a discharge letter, pain relief, and a follow up appointment which I have been told is his right to have. The lack of care has been consistent through out the hospital staff. I am currently seeking help from the Pal team at the hospital and yet to see how they can put this right. Not just my husband, but no patient when unwell should be treated in this way

We are very sorry to hear about your husband’s recent poor experience at the A&E department and his later unsatisfactory discharge from Homerton Hospital. Thank you or contacting our Patient Advice and Liaison Service (PALS). We hope we will be able to give you a full explanation of the issues you have raised concerning your husband’s care and treatment.
