"Good service. Parking still a farce."

About: Samuel Johnson Community Hospital

Went to have a X-Ray (no choice for this department below??) All went well and I was out within 20 minutes. I had parked down the road as I don't agree with charging patients for parking, we have already paid via our taxes. I noticed they still have the same ridiculous parking scam, sorry, scheme, in operation although we were promised via a letter in the Mercury that it would be removed. If I had parked in the car park I would have been charged £2 for 20 minutes, there is no lesser option. A few years ago you took a ticket and paid at the end of your visit for the time you had been there. This was a fairer system but the hospital administrators obviously felt they weren't taking enough cash from the sick. It is a disgrace that a private firm has been given the opportunity to line their pockets from the hard working (in most cases) tax payers.

Dear Mr Johnson Thank you for your positive feedback regarding the X-ray department at Samuel Johnson Community Hospital, we will share your comments with the Department. In regards to your comments about the car park we recognise and acknowledge that the car parking system has received negative feedback from service users. The Trust worked hard to engage and consult with the local communities about our car parking provision to ensure that we can offer an accessible parking experience across our three sites. We recognise that pay and display is not a viable option within a hospital setting, as it requires users to estimate how long their stay will be. The current system (automated number recognition) allows users to pay at the end of their visit and does not require them to take a ticket at the entrance barrier. It also allows us to offer time based concessions for certain users. The revenue from the parking tariff is used to maintain the car parks and protect funds for frontline services. If you require any further assistance please don’t hesitate to contact the PALS office directly on 01283 593110. Kind regards PALS team
