I am shocked that this hospital operates at all with the level of care and attendance shown by junior and senior staff members. I was a day case on 31st Oct for a circumcism. I arrived at 10:30 am and left at 10:30 PM. After I arrived I was put in a room and was told someone would attend to me, after 30 mins a nurse arrived and took my blood and temperature and wrote them on a piece of scrap paper. An hour passed when another nurse came in and said we haven't forgot you please get into the pants, socks and dressing gown provided. A lady arrived and took my meal requirements. Then a nurse came in at approx 1 PM to take some notes and explain the anaesthetist and consultant would come to see me. The nurse asked if I had my blood and temp taken as nothing was recorded on notes, which I'm not surprised about. I was told my op was at 2:30 PM, the anaesthetist came and explained what he was going to do (thankfully he was the most informative person). At approx 3 PM the consultant came in - asked me f I knew what was going happen, rushed through a procedure asked me to sign and then left- no opportunities for questions as he was in a rush. Then a nurse told me there was delays and more ops after mine and mine would be in about an hour making it approx 4pm. At 4:4pm they arrived and took me upstairs where I was told I was the last op and they had been very busy. I went into the roo for the anaesthetic, but had to wait a further for 20 mins. I the had the op but did not come round from the anaesthetic but was taken to my room at 6:15 PM. I was in distress for water, but the nurses ignored this and my wife had to ask for water for me. The nurse popped in saw I had my eyes open and took me off oxygen. Then saw I was asleep again and put e back on oxygen. I finally came round at approx 9am and was told they were going to keep me in. I did the wee ample, asked for my food and drank my water at which having done all three I was told I could go. No instructions on how to look after it, no after care provided. I was asked to sign a document and then I could go. That was the last I saw of anyone. If my wife had not been with me throughout the day then I old have been left worrying all day. I did tell the nurses during my pre op assessment that I am a very very nervous patient. I am currently very uncomfortable following the op and do not know what to do until my gp is available next week. I have not been told any time lines for when I can expect to get better or anything at this stage. All in all I am appalled with the way this hospital, certainly my experience, is allowed to operate. I was informed on many occasions how busy they were, but that is no excuse for basic care.
"appalling care"
