"Pre-operation blunder by hospital"

About: St Albans City Hospital

I was supposed to be admitted for day surgery on 30th November. About 10-15 days before that date the hospital telephoned to ask if I was still intending to turn up. I said Yes and asked about the pre-op, did I have to have another. I was not categorically that it was fine and I didn't need another pre-op. on 27th November the hospital telephoned me to say that my MRSA swab was out of date and I could not have the day surgery. The woman said I should go to St Albans Hospital at 4pm that day for another swab. I said that I could not do this as I was working in London and would be returning to Hemel Hempstead by Greenline Bus and would not be able to attend the hospital in time. I asked if I could go to Hemel Hospital as that was where all my pre-ops had been done before. I was told that Unit had been closed! I was then told I had been booked for the day surgery on Thurs.6/11/14. This causes me another problem. My daughter had been intending to collect me on 30/10/14 as it was half term and she could be free to collect me. Next week she will be back at work, so I have no way to get home other than taking a bus. I cannot afford a taxi. Now I have a letter from West Herts Trust telling me to attend for a pre-op at 8.30am on Monday, 3/11/14. I shall try to get there by bus but it is difficult as the bus stop is two miles from my home. This blunder by the hospital/s is causing me a lot of problems, leading to anxiety which has made my blood pressure go through the roof. There has been no apology. In fact, I was spoken to as if the fault was mine. I intend to make an official complaint.
