"Community Volunteering via Social Inclusion & Wellbeing Service"

About: Nottinghamshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust / Nottingham Recovery College

(as a staff member),

Since early spring, 2014, Nottinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust’s Social Inclusion & Wellbeing Service (SIWS), in conjunction with Nottingham City Council Parks & Open Spaces, has facilitated volunteer gardening sessions at the Forest Community Garden each Monday.

Work initially began with clearing weeds from the areas within the Community Garden and turning over the soil. This was followed by the planting of fruit trees, vegetables and herbs and the creation of a bee-friendly space within the Garden. There has been substantial input from SIWS volunteers in the development of the Community Garden and also of other areas of the Forest Recreation Ground.

The input of the volunteers has been recognised by The Royal Horticultural Society with the award of their Royal Horticultural Society and East Midlands in Bloom ‘It’s Your Neighbourhood 2014’ certificate for developing the Forest Community Garden site.

I feel that this is a validation of the work undertaken by those whom SIWS has supported to volunteer at the site and from a personal point of view it is very gratifying to have been involved in facilitating this.

Thanks for your posting. The volunteer sessions developed at the community garden have been a fantastic success and a great opportunity for people to develop thier skills, meet others and give something back to the community with the support from the team.

Well done to everyone involved in getting an award from the Royal Horticultural Society

Kind Regards
