"Jupiter Ward GWH"

I was transferred to Jupiter ward from ICU. I do not have dementia so I don't know why I was on this ward. I had a surgical wound on my neck which was not checked for days, the dressing was so sodden with pus that I had to take it off myself for which I was admonished. Nobody came to clean or redress it.

Furthermore, I reported having a urine infection three times. The response was to put me in a nappy. Nobody tested for infection. On the drugs round I have an injection into my stomach without being told first and when I questioned this, I was told 'Doctor wants you to have this'.

The level of care given by many of the nurses was abysmal. Some of the staff on the ward were non-English speakers and this created communication problems. I found one nurse asleep at the nurses station at 5am.

The food was terrible. A prepacked sandwich does not constitute a nutritious meal but every evening I was given a ham sandwich for supper, no choice.

I would never be treated at this hospital again. I felt uncared for, ignored, admonished and untreated. Luckily I went home having had to sign myself out in order to get the care I needed. Six months later I am fully recovered but still remember the terrible experience on that ward with nurses who don't act like they care and spend more time chatting together than answering calls for help.
