"Gynae services and Ward 11"

About: Leicester General Hospital

Following my pre-op assessment and minor surgery on Ward 11 yesterday I would like to pass on my heartfelt gratitude and thanks to all of the staff. I have been an outpatient at LGH several times over the last four years and was told that I would need a LLETZ procedure under general anaesthetic. First of all the date I was offered would have been the day I went on holiday so I rang the hospital and the woman I spoke to went to great lengths to get me an earlier appointment which was fantastic. My pre assessment was last Tuesday and the nurses and HCA's were very friendly and helpful, they answered all of my questions, explained things really well and the appointment ran smoothly. My procedure was yesterday and from admission to discharge which was only four hours later, I can honestly say I have never felt so cared for (this was my 6th general anaesthetic in 4 different NHS and private hospitals) the Staff Nurse and the HCA's on Ward 11 were brilliant, despite being obviously short staffed and run off their feet they couldn't have done enough for me, nothing was too much trouble and their friendly, caring approach made me feel extremely at ease despite being nervous. My Consultant was lovely, she answered everything I needed to know and more importantly to me, reassured me about the future and what would happen next, this has given me a lot of hope when I was very worried about starting a family and future surgery. I cannot thank her enough. My Anaesthetist - wow, I've worked in a few different NHS Trusts but I have never experienced such a wonderful bedside manner, I usually get a bit scared as I'm 'going under' but I think I drifted off with a smile on my face! A true gentleman. And as I said, I was in and out in four hours, back home feeling a little bit nauseous as expected from the Morphine but I have no other side effects or any of the post-op issues I was told to expect, I've not even had to take a Paracetamol. I'm pretty sure that there will be future appointments and procedures but I can honestly say that I have complete confidence in the whole of the Gynae Services Team and feel more hopeful than I ever have done. Thank you to you all!

Dear Jo, Thank you very much for taking the time to share your experience with us. It sounds like you have unfortunately had to visit us more than more often than you would like to, but we are delighted to hear that our team reflected the Trust Values we are so proud of! We have passed your thanks onto the matron and ward sister for ward 11, as well as the Head of Service for Gynae. They will share with the other staff who cared for you during your recent admission. If you would like to go above and beyond to say thank you, why not nominate the team for a Caring at its Best award via our website http://www.leicestershospitals.nhs.uk/aboutus/our-purpose-strategy-and-values/caring-at-its-best-awards/public-nomination-form/ Best wishes Communications Team Leicester's Hospitals
