"Urology Centre"

About: Guy's Hospital

I attended the Urology Centre today to investigate post void dribbling and urine retention. The clinic was running about 90 minutes late so my 10:20 appointment turned into 12:00: however all the staff were brilliant, keeping us up to date with delays. In very busy clinics delays are inevitable and I would sooner have a delay than feel staff were rushing patients through. Reception staff were friendly and efficient in a very busy and hectic clinic. The doctor I saw listened to what I said and explained clearly his opinion and what investigation he thought should be next. I then had a flexible cystoscopy which I was worried about but the nurse getting me ready quickly put me at ease. The same doctor came to do the test and explained exactly what he was going to do (I had already been given an informative set of notes). To my surprise, injecting the anaesthetic/lubricant into my urethra was not too dramatic and I didn't really feel the scope going through the system at all (I thought it would hurt). The doctor pointed out, on the screen, salient details and explained why he had made his diagnosis and then discussed options. At all times my modesty was preserved as far as possible and I was treated with great care and professionalism. It is scary having a long tube pushed into your penis but, should I need it again, I would have no hesitation in selecting Guys. A big thank you to all the staff; receptionists, nurses and my doctor. You did a fabulous job and made me feel like you really cared. To any men who might need this done I would say - don't delay - don't listen to the scary stories - I am a whimp but it really doesn't hurt at all. I would not hesitate in recommending this unit to anyone who needs to attend urology.

I apologise for the delays that you experienced during your visit to the Urology Centre. I am very glad that the other aspects of your visit were so positive and especially that the staff treated you with both care and professionalism. The Urology Matron and Service Manager were encouraged to receive this feedback, which they are happy to share with their teams
