"Maternity services very poor"

About: Royal Free Hospital

I transferred my maternity care to the Royal Free upon moving to London when I was 8 months pregnant in early 2013. From the very first appointment I hated this hospital. I was not offered a scan upon my transferral and the midwives I had at my appointments did not check the position of my baby properly even when they were unsure which resulted in an emergency csection for an undiagnosed breech when I went into labour. From the minute I arrived at the hospital on going into labour it was horrible. The staff were rude, I was left waiting for 2-3 hours to be seen upon arrival. We were extremely lucky that a consultant checked and detected the breech because we were about to be sent home to come back when labour had progressed. With the exception of the team that did my csection surgery the staff were all awful. On the post natal ward I can honestly say I have never experienced such indignity and rudeness and neglect in all my life. I hated every minute of being in that hospital for 3 days after my son was born and blame the poor 'care' I received there for setting me off on the route to post natal depression. I would never recommend anyone to have their baby at this hospital. I am fortunate to have moved from the area and so will not be having any more babies at this hospital. Alas, as it has now been over 12 months since my son was born I am now officially 'out of time' to make an official complaint but I was too traumatised by my experience to put into words how I felt before. Needless to say, the staff and treatment I received at the maternity unit at the Royal Free ruined the birth of my first son for me.
