"children's elective care unit"

About: Colchester General Hospital

I accompanied my daughter during her stay at children's elective care unit as she had to attend for the day for a minor procedure. We were extremely impressed with the care given and the professionalism of all the staff who were involved in her treatment. We had to go in at midday and she did not have her op til 4 pm, this was explained straight away, but as she was the oldest at 11 and the others were quite young, we expected this. she understood that they were only little and they didn't understand what was happening , as she did. So the wait was no problem. All the staff spoke to her and explained everything to her and to me. They were wonderful and looked after us very well. They put us at ease and helped my daughter handle the whole experience very well considering this was her first general anaesthetic. As a parent who was there accompanying my child and obviously a bit stressed, the staff did all they could to help me with the experience. The environment was immaculately clean and well maintained. We have no complaints at all, only praise and would recommend this unit to anyone having to go there. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff. When we left I made the point to my daughter that she should take note of all the staff who had been involved with her case which was really only a minor op. We had been looked after by so many staff during those 8 hours and each of them had treated us with respect, consideration and care . I cannot comment on the rest of the hospital, but this unit is excellent!

Many thanks for your comments and taking the time to submit them. We try really hard to improve our services based on the comments we receive from our patients, their relatives or carers. We have a quarterly At Our Best Awards scheme which recognises staff achievements and thanks them for what they do. It has a team category, an individual and a volunteer category.
