My daughter is a patient on Caburn Ward. On 15/10/2014 I was asked if I would raise any objections to her being served with a s3 as she was refusing prescribed medication. I had no objections as I knew how ill she was. On 22/10 she was given 4 hours unaccompanied leave. This went well, although she was still ill. 25/10/2014 she was given 48 hours leave. This didn't go well. By the evening 25/10/she was exhibiting all the symptoms of her psychosis. This caused distress to her 13 year old son, his father and me. I contacted Caburn Ward and the nurse I spoke to was very helpful and understanding. 2 members of staff collected her from her home and returned her to Caburn. I feel that she was incorrectly assessed by the psychiatrist who signed her out. I went to the ward round on 27/10 (non of the staff who were present were introduced to me) and told them what had happened. The psychiatrist said we cannot keep people here forever! No apology, no mention of mistake. My daughter joined us and the psychiatrist then discussed her medication with her. Much to my surprise he went on to say they should discuss home leave. My daughter is aware of her illness and told him it was too early to discuss home leave and explained her condition to the group. I find the registered nurses knowledgeable and helpful. However the psychiatrist seemed more interested in increasing her medication and discharging her. One last thing, I rang the out of hours team as I was having difficulty getting through to Caburn Ward and was advised to call the Police! Totally unhelpful.
