"Suffer from dementia - you are not welcome here ....."

If you suffer from dementia in Herefordshire, then the official NHS line seems to be "Go into respite care and don't keep bothering the hospital system." Doesn't matter if you've got an infection, or a genuine reason to use the services - you have underlying dementia so you are on a two strikes then you are out basis. The attitude given by management is a disgrace, it is such a shame that treatment is decided purely by financial motives (get the patient off our books and make them pay for private care) rather than what is best for the patient. As regards the treatment and care in hospital; the staff on the ground do a good job, very hassled and they spend a lot of time firefighting problems, the majority of which is unnecessary, and could be avoided if basic communication took place. Information does not get exchanged, be it from one shift to the next and certainly not between departments. Its almost as if all areas of the hospital are completely autonomous and are unable to communicate with each other. Post-hospital care is easy to sum up - there isn't any. You are left to fend for yourself with no follow up, and no information about any services that may be available.
