Follow up to a previous post on Patient Opinion.
Following placing information regarding my mother's painful wait for a steroid injection on to Patient Opinion, one of the hospital managers requested further information, which we supplied via e-mail. This information, we assume, was shared with the appropriate people, as it resulted within 2 days, with an offer for my mother to have the steroid injection from one of the other consultants team in 4 days time.
We obviously grasped this opportunity and the procedure was performed 2 days ago, the pain relief was immediate and my elderly father, who is the main carer, has had his first two nights sleep in months. To see the difference in my mother is amazing and we are extremely grateful for the assistance provided to us but are aware that if it had not been for the article on Patient Opinion we would not yet have had the offer of an appointment.
I am concerned for the elderly who have less support or unable to access this method of raising concerns, as none of our previous contact appeared to have any effect.
We remain unaware of how the situation arose or why it was allowed to continue for so long, if truth be told, we are apprehensive regarding how long the wait may be for any future injections but for the moment we are enjoying the few weeks of painfree days that my mother now has. Thank you.
