"Car Parking at Ayr Hospital"

About: Ayr Hospital

(as the patient),

Arrived at Ayr Hospital at 9. 40 am for a 10. 00 am clinic appointment. Went round and round car park and eventually drove down to Ailsa Hospital where I managed to park outside the Physio Building. I had to walk back up to the main entrance of Ayr Hospital in pouring rain and arrived at the clinic at 10. 10 am - 10 minutes late for my appointment. I was able to walk this distance but there must be many people who for whatever reason would be physically unable to manage this. I realise that building work is ongoing at present and that there are less parking spaces available, but this problem must put many people off visiting friends/relatives in the wards and must also contribute to the number of failed attendances for clinic appointments! !

Dear Migie,

I am very sorry had to walk so far and I agree entirely, some people will not be able to do so. I do so sympathise and I am sure many people reading this will agree that the parking situation at both Ayr and Crosshouse is a nightmare just now. The plus side is that the developments are really necessary and they will really help us to deliver care in Ayrshire and Arran in the future.

I am not sure if there is a solution to be honest with you. What I will do though is pass this onto the people responsible for the development work and ask if there is anything we can do in the short term. The only option I can think of is to park outside the hospital somewhere and take the bus the last bit of the way, but I understand timing and public transport can be problematic and this would not be possible for everyone to do.

Some people must take this into consideration when they are deciding to visit the hospital, especially if they are unable to walk too far.

Thank you for raising this with us and I am sorry it is such a problem.

Kind regards,
