"Short stay incl surgery. A&E -Ward 90 - CHH Ward 6"

About: Hull Royal Infirmary

My wife was admitted to A & E Sun 5th Oct following an accident resulting in Fractured Tib/Fib. Long time in A&E but professional care in spite of staff pressures and more emergencies than accidents. Arrived around 2pm - onto Ward around 7PM .Sent to Ward 90 for a few days prior to surgery. Care 100% all round. Cleanliness and attention to detail 100%. Post surgery care incl physio again 100%.Cannot praise staff highly enough - they were often stretched but always cared. Moved to CHH Ward 6 for final 2 nights prior to discharge due to bed pressures @ HRI. Discharged from CHH 14th Oct. Transfer and support equipment second to none. Follow up @ Fracture Clinic 23rd Oct again 100% incl Transport staff. Although not yet ready for final discharge have make this input, incl the surgeon & Team of course. Hopefully the "new" A & E Dept,when completed, will improve the general experience. The time taken,going back & forth to X/R etc and assessments was excessive by modern standards. Perhaps "Accident" could be seperated from "Emergency"? It was noted that many patients,laid around for many hours,were not accidents and partially processed emergencies that would have been better served outwith this department. However, on balance, a positive experience carried out with great care, compassion and skill. Well done HRI!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
