"No ambulance pick up for 83 year old with a broken arm"

About: North East Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust / Emergency ambulance

(as a carer),

My Mother fell and broke her arm in the garden and as she was unable to stand (and was not wearing her fall pendant). She had to crawl across a large garden and along the passage of her home. I found her near the front door in a distressed state and rang 999.

After a review of her condition (no signs of blood or bones through the skin) I was told it would be "hours" to get an ambulance and it would be best if I drove her to A+E at South Shields. I was happy to do this but very painful for my Mum both getting her in and out of the car and of course all the speed bumps.

Can we really not have an ambulance in these circumstances? As we arrived and I struggled to get her into the Hospital and find a wheelchair a sprightly 50 year old was walking out to meet an Ambulance driver who was calling their name.
