"Cardiac Rehab Education Programme "

About: Tameside General Hospital / Cardiology

(as the patient),

I have previously written to compliment you on the Cardiac Rehab programme run by Tameside. I now wish to add a comment belatedly on the Education programme, specifically the Heart Information talk given by Janice, one of your Cardiac nurses..

Although I have had coronary heart disease for about 6 years I have avoided reading up detailed information relating to the heart disease, largely because I'm pretty squeamish. But I'm really glad I attended this session.

Janice described how the heart works and the problems that can arise. She then went into detail regarding the risk factors for heart disease, before moving on to cardiac investigations and procedures and the range of medication that is commonly prescribed. Although the sessions are normally scheduled to last for about an hour, in this case, it was nearly double that time. This was because it was a very interactive session with all of us asking a wide variety of questions.

It was evident that Janice is an extremely professional nurse with a very impressive depth of knowledge in her field. There wasn't a single question she was unable to answer.

We live in an age where superficiality abounds and knowledge of detail seems to be largely missing. How refreshing to meet someone who bucks that trend and who is very much at the "top of her game" with an extremely thorough knowledge. She is an employee who inspires great confidence and is a tremendous asset to Tameside Hospital.

Without exaggeration, this was an exceptional session which is why I have singled it out for an individual comment.

Thank you for your very kind comments, it is always good to have feedback on how the service we provide is being received. Within cardiac rehab our patients are very much at the heart of everything we do and as such any feedback we receive good or bad are utilised as we continually strive to improve the service. Currently we provide a programme of exercise and information sessions for people after a heart attack, heart surgery or a procedure, to help them get back to normal everyday life as efficiently and successfully as possible.

Thank you again for these wonderful comments I will ensure the cardiac team receive these.

‘’Would you like to help the hospital to improve its services further? We are currently looking for patients and carers to become involved in a development called “Patient Stories”. We want to know more about our services from the point of view of those who received them – what was good, bad, what could be improved, what should be changed. Want to know more about what’s involved? Please contact John Goodenough, Director of Nursing at
