"Respect for cultural differences not given"

(as a staff member posting for a patient/service user),

I've had some very good experiences at Manchester Royal Infirmary and Trafford General Hospital for my diabetes. The clinical side is good. But, I find that my culture isn't always taken into account; there's not enough respect for people from different cultures at either hospital.

Thank you for your feedback. We are sorry to learn that your experience was not as positive as we would hope when you visited the two Trust hospitals. It is important to us that comments are heard and seen as an opportunity provided to the service to make changes and improvements wherever possible.

In response to your comment, I can tell you that the Trust strives to deliver services in a way which takes into account the cultural and religious needs of patients. We understand the importance of culture in patient care and are continually looking at how we can improve the experiences of our patients around their cultural needs. We use patient stories for example, to train our staff to better understand cultural needs. Your concerns have also been escalated to Corporate Services so that they can look into them and that others do not experience the same issues as you did.
