After a period of illness, I was referred to Royal Liverpool Hospital Neck and Thyroid Cancer Clinic for tests. On the initial consultation, I tried to explain symptoms. The consultant then asked if I had any neurological conditions. I explained that I did and what it was. The consultant then said to the registrar present that I would need referral to neurology. On looking at my record on screen, the registrar then pointed out that it showed I had a mental health condition not neurological. It was said in front of four staff present. This was a shock to me as it was clear the neurological condition had been put on record as a mental health condition instead. The consultant then told the registrar not to proceed with the referral to neurology. I felt stigmatized even though I knew the mental health condition must have been put on my record in error. Following this, I went for biopsies and a different consultant with a more sensitive and professional manner explained the results to me and what it meant.
