"Broken boy fixed."

About: The Great Western Hospital

After a simple fall I took my son in to what was a very busy ED, but he was assessed very quickly, they ensured he'd had all the pain killers he could do at that point and arranged for an xray before he'd even seen a doctor. When he did see the doc, the service was efficient yet friendly, the consultant used understandable language and even showed us my son's xray so we could see what the problem was. At this point we were referred on to a specialist team; they arrived very quickly and came to a decision in conjunction with me and my 11 year old which was acceptable to all parties. This was much appreciated as it was well past 11pm by this point. We arrived at Day Surgery today, the receptionist knew who we were before we even introduced ourselves and we were directed into a clean and tidy waiting space. It was a little bit of a wait to be seen at this point, but everyone we had contact with before surgery was friendly, open and communicated really well. The theatre staff were lovely, putting my very anxious son at ease and ensuring I understood what was going on at all points right up until I kissed him goodbye as he went to sleep. The staff on Day Surgery were fab once he was out of theatre. They took me to see him in Recovery (also full of lovely staff) and then got him fed, watered and up on his feet as he was able; not when was convenient for them. They (and the Consultant Orthopaedic Dr) went out of their way to provide us with vital documentation before we were discharged home with plenty of explanations and provision of support if we need it. Thank you GWH Team; everyone we met has made what could easily have been a stressful and scary experience one that went like clockwork, with no nasty surprises and everyone we met exhibited a real sense on concern for my Son and me.
