"My experience of Basildon Hospital following major..."

About: Basildon University Hospital

I was admitted to the care of the hospital on 13th Oct where I underwent major bowel surgery. I can honestly say the treatment I received was of the highest level commencing with the Consultant and his team right to the nursing and ancillary staff. I had what appeared to be a private room in Burstead ward with it's own en-suite facilities which were spotless. The nurses and HCA's were truly dedicated and were always available for the most menial of tasks without complaint. Although probably unfair, I would pick out one particular individual for the highest level of praise, the Staff Nurse, a truly modern day Florence Nightingale. I would also like to include those areas that receive the most criticism in the national press - the catering and cleaning departments. The food was excellent, the choices extensive and the presentation first class. Again, nothing was to much trouble to ensure my stay was as comfortable as possible. The cleaners were all very professional in their tasks yet were almost like ghosts such was the quiet efficient way they went about their business.
