"Contact with patients and family"

About: Forth Valley Royal Hospital

(as a parent/guardian),

Question - is it not about time something was done about mobile communication at the hospital. ? very distressing being unable to contact my daughter and speak with her via text messages or mobile phone. In this day and age that is unacceptable.

Bad enough being in hospital, but not good having restrictions placed on patients re communicating with their loved ones. Realise that hospital telephone service could be used, but his is also very restricting for patients and their families.

Many thanks for your comments,I agree that this is frustrating and that this is a problem in some parts of the hospital. Serco have been working to improve access to mobile phone lines, but in our emergency departments this is proving difficult due to the building design and materials.Patients can access Wi -fi by obtaining a password from staff, or at the main reception area. Patients are always welcome to use our internal lines to contact relatives.

many thanks

It is reassuring to know that patients can use the wifi system. However, this does not address the problem of relatives wishing to phone direct to a patient who is in the hospital. Whilst it may be possible to use a landline to contact an inpatient, this is not possible for making contact with somebody who may be waiting in an outpatient area or public area of the hospital.

We live in the twenty first century and we are assured this is a twenty first century hospital. This certainly is NOT the case when basic communication is not freely possible!! More effort is required to solve this glaring problem. It is NOT acceptable to have this situation continue as it all adds great stress and anxiety to patients, family and friends at a time of illness. It has to be solved.
