"A very mixed experience"

About: The Princess Royal Hospital / Accident and emergency The Princess Royal Hospital / Trauma and orthopaedics

(as the patient),

Mixed experience. Paramedics excellent! Got to hospital A&E in good time. Not lunch offered. Gave me a dried up egg sandwich, which I found inedible. Neglected most of the time – just gave me paracetamol which did not stop my terrible headache. I demanded a medicine I'd had previously before I slept in evening as GP had stopped it. I knew high blood pressure was the cause of my TIA but no-one listened to me. Moved through 4 different wards. Nurses on geriatrics were laughing when they told me I would have people groaning and screaming all night long. The nurses spent most of their time chatting in loud voices at their desks + had no thought of patients trying to sleep. No sympathy for anyone. Nurses in computer room woke me up with loud voices while I was asleep. The whole experience was hell on earth.

I was at the PRH clinic but unfortunately I was propelled all over the place, starting at A&E and progressing eventually to the Geriatric Ward and being taken out of there because they needed my bed and being wheeled into the computer room which was next door to, I believe, the Respiratory Ward (no-one told me where I was going to be parked next so I don't really know where I was). I was just a nuisance to be put somewhere. During the night in the Computer Room two of the staff woke me up talking loudly over the computers when they could easily have whispered.

I would say that Outpatients' is a different thing altogether. The staff are considerate and kind.

I have been in many wards at the PRH. The Stroke Ward treated its patients well and the nurses were kind and considerate to everyone. I thought I would be taken there but unfortunately not this time.
