"deben and orwell and framlingham ward"

About: Ipswich Hospital

i was admitted to deben ward at 7:45am on april 17th and my miwife was absolutely amazing i had the epidural in with in an hour of getting there and my waters were broken after 3 hours and that was when things started to go wrong for me as there was only meconium surrounding my baby i began to develop a fever again and his heart rate became worrying to my midwife over a 4 hour period, and when they checked me again i had only progressed one cm and his heart rate became so worrying to my midwife that they decided a cat 1 section was needed, and that the baby doctors would be present aswell, i dont remeber much but from what i was told i was very upset and my son was born by c-section and was taken down to the nicu after birth. i was then admitted to orwell and placed in my own side room which was lovely and clean and very nice most of the midwives i encountered were absolutely lovely and brilliant but there was one i was less than impressed with as she was quite rude, about when i would be discharged id only had my section 2 days previous and told me as i was up and about and able to get in and out of bed ( but unable to walk distances so a midwife had to take me up and down to framlingham to see my son) i would be discharged that afternoon, i was flabergasted when she said that they would only send me home on paracetamol i asked to see the doctor and told her the pain was to much and i was still having oramorph for the pain and the doctor agreed to send me home with oramorph and codine. i was then discharged with injections for a week oramorph and codine down to the neo natal unit where i stayed for the next 5 days, all the staff were brilliant, but still went up to orwell for my injections daily and my daily midwife check, i found out i had group b strep, 5 days after birth, and my son had it too which was why he was so ill. this should be routinely tested for in the last 2 weeks of pregnancy as its awful and ruined my birth experience! and my son was ill from it aswell!! and i didnt find out until 2 days before he was discharged that i could of got my meals from brooke ward aswell, i think there should be a small welcome pack for mums discharged from orwell to the neo natal unit stating that you can still get your meals from brook ward and what times they are aswell and also that they can still get there midwife checks done on orwell aswell (for those that have a c-section) that they can have the dressing removed up there aswelll and also the stitch other than that the midwife team and the neo natal doctors team were both amazing without them i dread to think what could of happened to my son. it will never be forgotten
