"Still suffering from kidney stones after two years"

About: Glan Clwyd General Hospital / Accident and emergency

(as the patient),

I have been going to the A&E dept of my local hospital about 20 times now since Apr 07. All the time I have had the same severe pains in my left side, I have been told its everything from Constipation to kidney stones to a hernia. Most of those times I was sent home same day with painkillers and/or Trimeothoprim,/Senokot.

About 3 weeks ago, I had to go in again with bad side pains. This time they kept me in and did an op (ureteroscopy) on me next day. (Though I was told nothing about this op in advance). They tried to remove the stone but with no luck. I woke up in the ward with lots of blood when weeing and pains down below (something I was not expecting, as I was not told to expect this before the procedure). I was sent home next day with Paracetamol and Ciprofloxacin.

They called me in for a pre op last Friday, they took blood tests, weight, urine test, etc. they now tell me I have 2 stones, one in the kidney and one in the ureter, but that I will have to wait another 2 to 3 months for further treatment! I have contacted Guys stone unit at London to see if I could go there, because they say they can see me a lot quicker, but on telling my doctor that he says because I am in Wales he cannot send me to England ,as my local health board wont fund it. so I suppose I have to still wait. I can feel the stent all the time, and feel rough, queasy and ill most days now. I wish I could sort it all out and get seen quicker, but how?
