"Wish we could be seen by GP"

About: North Tyneside General Hospital

Unable to contact rheumatology department by telephone after trying on several different days and occasions. Nobody bothered phoning back after leaving messages on machine saying that it was urgent for at least 24 hours. Was told that they were short staffed when I complained Our GP is very sympathetic and local to our home but he has explained that we can't see him and have to do everything at the hospital. We find this very unfair and inconvenient as its a car journey away and appointments are always at awkward times. Nurses have said that they will give us appointments and then we hear nothing so we have to contact them again to make all appointments. I trust my local GP but have zero trust in the hospital, it makes me feel very insecure and unhappy that I have to deal with them without any other choice. I am very unsatisfied.

Response from North Tyneside General Hospital

Dear Sir/ Madam, Whilst I am naturally very disappointed to read your review, I am very grateful that you have brought this to our attention. I am extremely sorry that we have failed to respond to your telephone messages - it is not the reaction we'd expect from our staff, no matter how busy. I am also sorry that your poor experience has caused you to lose faith in your local hospital. I have forwarded your concerns to senior managers and clinical leaders within medicine but would like to do more to help. If you could kindly send your contact details to me annie.laverty@nhct.nhs.uk I will ensure that this matter is follwed up urgently and that you have the opportunity to speak to someone within the service who can help. With sincere apologies once again for any frustration caused, Annie
