"Awful"

About: Medway Maritime Hospital

My pregnant wife had servere lower abdominal pains, so we headed down to A&E last night at 8pm. We took a number and booked in as normal. To cut a long stiry short we were still sat there at 11:15pm having not even been asked about her condition let alone be seen to. At 10pm i asked the man on the desk where in line we was and he said 'there are two patiebts before you' cery abruptly. Many people cane and went whilst we were there, over a dozen of them having come in after us. The real kick in the teeth was seeing many paralletic drunks come and get seen to, only causing bother. At 11:10 a nee lady was starting shift so we went and asked her where in line we now was... Her reply, 'there are dice people infront of you', very rude once again. When questioned how that could be she just huffed and said 'well more people have come in since'. No wonder the NHS is going down the pan. Awful hospital!

I am sorry to hear about your wife’s experience within the emergency department and would welcome a discussion with you to find out more detail so I can address the matter. We have started a ‘meet and greet’ system where every patient that walks into the emergency department is seen by a senior sister to gain a basic history and allocate appropriate treatment locations - avoiding long waits for patients. My email address is Nicola.riley@medway.nhs.uk and my contact numbers are below. Thank you Nicola Riley Matron - Emergency department 01634 830000 x3847 07739 166 322
