"The day unit felt very bright, ..."

About: St Albans City Hospital

(as the patient),

What I liked

The day unit felt very bright, welcoming and clean. Even though it was a mixed sex ward I felt comfortable and did not feel my privacy was infringed. The admission process was quick and efficient leaving me no time to get even more nervous! Although I was sorry to see my husband go I was pleased to see the no visitor's rule was enforced for everyone. The nurses who took care of me were really great. They answered all my questions, checked on me regularly and noticed that I was nervous even though I had not said anything. They also gave me plenty of time to recover from the anesthetic and I did take a while to come round properly but I did not feel I was rushed to get out of the bed. They made sure I had eaten and been to the toilet and that I felt well enough to go home. They were excellent.

What could be improved

The anesthetist was very brusque, dismissing my concerns out of hand. He also called one of the nurses an idiot when they were putting the needle in my arm.
