"ward 27"

About: Tameside General Hospital

My labour was long and traumatic as I ended up with an emergency section. Labour staff were very helpful. It was when i got to the recovery ward 27 things started going downhill. Staff seemed very dissatisfied with their jobs, they were very unhelpful, i felti was not listened to. Staff were patronising making snearing remarks to other patients. Every time i tried feeding my daughter they would pick on every little things they felt i was doing wrong. I felt judged and did not have any support from staff whatsoever. Upon leaving my husband asked the midwife if we had put the car seat on correctly and the reply we got was 'well how would I know how it goes'. It was a very unnecessary way to reply. I would never dream of recommending this hospital to anyone.

Response from Lindsay Stewart, Deputy Director of Nursing, Tameside and Glossop Integrated Care NHS Foundation Trust

Thank you for your comments. This is clearly not the standard of care we expect any of our patients to receive. We take patient concerns very seriously and we can only improve if we know what is going wrong from a patient’s perspective. We have passed this information onto the ward manager for this area to share with her staff.

If you would like us to look into the concerns you have raised. Please contact Rachel Schollar (Ward Manager) on 0161 922 4005

‘’Would you like to help the hospital to improve its services further? We are currently looking for patients and carers to become involved in a development called “Patient Stories”. We want to know more about our services from the point of view of those who received them – what was good, bad, what could be improved, what should be changed. Want to know more about what’s involved? Please contact John Goodenough, Director of Nursing at
