"Severely traumatised by smear test"

About: Wessex

(as the patient),

I live in Bournemouth. 2 years ago I went for a routine smear test the nurse inserted the speculum and opened it till I screamed in agony. she then continued to open it more whilst I was still screaming she left me on the couch going to her work station I do not know how long she was gone but I continued to scream I was paralysed and terrified I did not know how long this torture would continue. when she finally returned and removed the speculum I was so traumatised I could not speak. on leaving the surgery all the reception staff had grins on their faces. finally after more than 2 months I contacted the practice manager who ignored my suffering I contacted p. a. ls and n. h. s England finally the police who informed me that they know this sort of thing happens but as I had agreed to have a smear test they was nothing they could do. When I first discussed this with my gp she offered to send me for counseling on the 3rd time I saw my gp I was finding it difficult to come to terms with what the nurse had done to me and was then told by my gp there was a 6-9 months wait to see a counsellor. all these investigations took up to 18 months

I finally went to the ombudsman they told me they would investigate my complaint

what did they do they asked my practice manager who is hired and payed by the surgery to interview the nurse who said she could not remember my showing any discomfort during my smear and as she had written nothing on my medical records

they believed her, the practice manager was admonished for failing to keep any records regarding my complaint and what other records had he failed to record

that has left me so very angry severely traumatised unable to have any intimate relations and certainly never ever and more smears

I have done all I can but justice is not being done
